volunteers collect and assemble supplies in buckets for disaster victims

Cleaning buckets for flood victims

by | Feb 1, 2023 | Opportunities to Serve

After natural disasters, the Early Response Team (ERT) from the California Nevada Annual Conference and the United Methodist Committee of Relief (UMCOR) not only provide help to stabilize the situation, but perhaps more importantly, we provide the assurance that someone cares.

There are a number of types of buckets that ERT makes available to those experiencing a disaster. Currently, with the California floods, Cleaning Buckets are being given out containing cleaning supplies for use in the cleanup of a damaged home. Sunnyvale UMC hopes to supply some of these buckets and your help is needed.

How can you help?

First: Make a donation to fill a bucket or a portion of a bucket (every bit helps). Bucket costs are about $75 each. We are hoping to put together about 25 buckets. The Church and Society Committee will be covering part of the cost. Donations can be made by check or online. Designate that it is for “cleaning buckets”. Please make your donation by February 12.

Second: We will need some volunteer shoppers the week of February 13-18 to buy supplies for the buckets.

Finally, on Sunday, February 19, after church we will pack the buckets. Everyone is invited to help.
